{"id":5186,"date":"2014-03-20T07:57:01","date_gmt":"2014-03-20T14:57:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gertrudeandalice.com\/blog\/?p=5186"},"modified":"2014-03-21T06:40:29","modified_gmt":"2014-03-21T13:40:29","slug":"a-reflection-on-landmark-birthdays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gertrudeandalice.com\/blog\/2014\/03\/20\/a-reflection-on-landmark-birthdays\/","title":{"rendered":"A Reflection on Landmark Birthdays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What are the landmark birthdays?\u00a0 1,5,13,16,18,21,25,30,40,50,60,<b>65<\/b>,70,75,80,85,90,95,100?<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5188\" style=\"width: 279px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5188\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5188\" alt=\"Now that's a landmark !\" src=\"http:\/\/gertrudeandalice.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/imgres.jpg\" width=\"269\" height=\"187\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5188\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Now that&#8217;s a landmark !<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Well, today I\u2019ve reached the one almost in the center of the top listing (does that still make it middle-age?), so officially I am now a Senior Citizen, though I know for some benefits that age has dropped to 55 and even 50.<\/p>\n<p>As many of my generation have gotten older, it has become popular to\u00a0 confront our ages by making\u00a0 them seem less old than our parents or grandparents by creating the \u201cis-the-new\u201d model: 30 is-the-new 20, 40 is-the-new 30, 50 is-the-new 40, and so on.<\/p>\n<p>In that case, though birthdays at any life-stage have never concerned me, as far as I can remember, I\u2019ll make 65 the-new-45. Why not? Where was I at 45 and what was I doing?\u00a0 Let me think.<\/p>\n<p>To put it into perspective. Gertrude was 60 at the beginning of the U.S. lecture tour. Alice was 77 when her cookbook was published.
