It has often been said that as you get older time seems to pass more quickly, hence birthdays are here each year before we know it!<\/p>\n

And today, once again Our Ms. Stein celebrates her 138th<\/sup> birthday. (Just imagine how quickly time must pass once you\u2019ve reached 138?!)<\/p>\n

The year past has been most eventful for Steiniacs around the globe and I\u2019m already beginning to hear about new Stein events in the new year: theatrical productions, workshops and literary conferences.\u00a0 Just register with Google Alerts and enter \u201cGertrude Stein\u201d if you\u2019d like to be kept in the know. The question of what to get for a 138 year old birthday \u201cgirl\u201d would stump even the most gifted of personal shoppers.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure she had\/has it all.\u00a0 What more could one ask for than a roomful of Picassos and Matisses (and Alice) especially at today\u2019s auction prices? \u00a0It could put Facebook\u2019s pending IPO to shame \u2013 and then maybe not!<\/p>\n

So what I offer today as a gift to one and all is a drawing that Tom Hachtman did for me a number of years ago.\u00a0 I think it is very appropriate as it shows GertrudeandAlice at one of their favorite activities \u2013 eating.<\/p>\n

What the concoction in the Crockpot is\u2026I\u2019ll let you all use your imaginations.\u00a0 But whatever it is,\u00a0 everyone gathered around the table seems to be very pleased and happy!\u00a0 What more can we ask for on any birthday?<\/p>\n

Life is too short.\u00a0 Time passes too quickly. Grab that Crockpot from the back shelf of the kitchen cabinet and\u00a0 concoct something that will make you happy too!<\/p>\n
